I really should check my myspace page more often. Mike responded to me back on the 26th of January. I will post my message to him (which was the 17th of January) followed by his response:

He makes a number of claims about the band that I doubt are true. From dealing with Gavin on the Incubus Online forum, I know Gavin has some serious issues. Now, some real news. Brandon has been showing his paintings, Ben has been making a solo record, during breaks from being repeatedly stalked and harassed, Kilmore has been jamming with friends and recording new music. Jose has been spending time with his beautiful daughter and playing alot of drums at home. I've been busy scoring 2 films (will tell more about them as they are finished) and trying to keep up with the frantic pace of Harvard. Rest assured, to all of our loyal fans, a new Incubus record is on its way...I can promise you that much.
And by the way, Dirk Lance has a new album out with his band Willie's Nerve Clinic. You should advise all interested incubus fans to go check it out and show him your support. It's great to see him making music again, and doing it for no other reason than because he loves it.

Wow, Mike scoring two films? That is exactly the type of project I been wanting to see him do.
Kilmore's music should be tasty. As should a new album.

I'm 100% certain that 'Leech' is not about Dirk Lance. A lot of people seemed to think that, but I nthink Mike pointing out his new band and sort of doing a little promotion for him is obvious enough that their relationship with Alex is far from hatefull.
Leech could be about Gavin Koppel tho.
Besides that good news, but it seems incubus is on a very low priority right now. Shame.

Mike doesn't speak for Brandon. Brandon writes the lyrics. It's not improbable that Brandon and the band felt resentment towards Dirk seven years ago. Just because Mike made a nice enough gesture to mention Dirk's new band does not mean there was never any animosity between them. Anyone who was around 3 years ago remembers when Mike opened up about Dirk's involvement in the band, whether it was from responding to fans on myspace or speaking with fans at shows (including myself).
Time has passed and I'm sure by now the band has a healthy and proffessional relationship with Dirk, but that doesn't mean they never had their issues. Sure, "Leech" may not be about Dirk, but there are still many reasons pointing to the theory that it might be.

awesome news, thank you very much chris. i imagine that those two films that mike is making are about science. he has been into science since he was in harvard so if they are about science it's going to be awesome and the music too.
anyone here has heard the willie's nerve clinic album? i read on a myspace bulletin that the cd is available at their shows thought. |

ive heard it, you can google it and listen to clips of each song.
not exactly that great in my opinion, mainly because im very turned off by the singer. the instrumental parts also sound very...overproduced? far too clean and crisp, but the im a sucker for vocals so they just through the whole thing off.
Dirk's parts are great i think. i've always loved his bass lines and judging from Mike's shout out it seems like Dirk's really enjoying the music theyre making so best of luck to them |
