So I was finally able to get the Canon EOS 400D yesterday and haven't stopped taking pictures since. I absolutely love it! Still need to learn a lot but some of the pictures came out really nice.

My personal favorite:

Feedback would be appreciated!

You've got some nice pictures! I particularly like this one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicubus/2885326332/) and the one which is also your favorite.

The sun shining through the leaves is just great, and in the second one I love the contrast between life and lifeless. The statue is just this stiff piece of rock, but the water flowing from the fountain gives the whole photograph new meaning.

Any more comments? I'd like to know what people like/don't like and what they have to say because it'll help me out a lot.

I've added a lot more pictures now if anyone's interested

Owning a new camera is always exciting, especially when it's such a good one.

I think you took some pretty sweet pictures, you've got an eye for details. The one of the girl in front of the theatre and the statue-picture are great.
Also, these seem more "original" to me, more creative, than some of the others.

I like the colorful pictures better than the black and white ones, they are less static and more interesting.

Thanks a lot!

I think black and white makes certain pictures look more interesting, but thanks for the feedback, I've noticed I go a bit too crazy on b&w and have been trying to avoid it a bit.

I sometimes get the feeling I try too hard to make interesting pictures, but it's good to hear you think they're original and you like them. Thanks!

It's true that some scenes/ things look more interesting in black and white, it's just that I think that most of your black and white stuff doesn't look better because it is in black and white, you know what I mean?

But I just found a new black and white picture on your flickr that I like.

This is so much better.

Also, this one is beautiful.

I really like your pictures. Especially the ones of random people and nature...and the places. Actually I like pretty much all of them. Good work!

Thanks! When I got Buster I was told he was a full Beagle, but as he became adult it became obvious that he wasn't, but I don't really know what the other half is.

Nope, no experience at all. I just started getting more and more into photography to the point where I figured I had to try it for myself. So I saved up for the camera and just started messing around with it.

Can I ask you how much you paid for your camera? I'm also very interested in photography and want to buy a SLR but I honestly have no idea what camera is suitable for an "amateur" or beginner.

Btw, are you from Vienna?

Sorry for bothering you. Smile

No, come on! You're not bothering me at all, I'm actually more flattered that someone takes the time to ask me stuff Smile

I paid a very good price for my camera. At the time the camera with a 18-55 lens was at about 520 Euros. But I was able to negotiate a bit with the lady at the story (who was extremely nice) and she gave me quite the discount to 450 Euros. Now you won't find the 400D in stores anymore since the 450D is out. But I think the 450 runs at about the same price now.

The 400D (and 450D) are great beginner cameras. As I said, I had no experience at all beyond the normal point and shoot cameras, and my camera is very easy to use and intuitive. So it was just a blast messing around with it figuring everything out and taking pictures of all kinds of stuff. Nikon also has a great beginner camera you should consider, the D40x.

I really underestimated something that people were telling me, when I was looking at what camera to buy but I strongly recommend it myself now: Go the the store and hold the cameras you're considering. Easy as that. The camera you feel more comfortable with is your camera. This means: Does the camera fit well in your hand? Do you find the most important buttons without having to look around them? That's how I finally decided for the 400D. I was flirting with the D40x for a while because it seemed a better deal, but in I just didn't feel comfortable with it.

And yes, I am from vienna Smile

Thanks a lot for helping me, Nicubus. I appreciate that. Smile

I might buy the Nikon D40x as I currently use a Nikon too. But I will definitely do what you recommended: Go to the store and hold the camera.
I will probably check out ebay too. Maybe I can find it there for a good price.

Oh, and yay to you for being from Vienna. Smile

thanks.

I'm also from Austria...but not from Vienna. It's just nice to see people from Austria around here. Guess we are pretty much the only ones.
And, I don't live in Austria at the moment so it's also nice to see pictures of your homecountry. Yes, too much excitement, I know. Smile
