I've been listening to them all week after rediscovering them. I wish more bands were influenced by these guys.

Sundara Karma - Deep Relief

Saw these guys open for Wolf Alice last year and learned yesterday they have a debut album out since the beginning.of this year. It's actually pretty damn good.

I've got Badmotorfinger on repeat since Chris died. I'm still pretty sad.

For the longest time I'm bummed that rock is no longer lucrative in the music industry. Even more so that that era of great music seems to be so far in the distant past than it really is. Kids don't even know who Soundgarden were and if they do get to hear some songs they probably wouldn't take a second look.

Man, I really hope rock makes some kind of resurgence in the not so distant future.

To be fair, I was listening to whatever music was happening at the time of my teens. Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, POD, Papa Roach, nu metal shit. Because that was what was big then. It wasn't untill I was 16 that I started to branch out a little and it wasn't untill three years after that that I started to look back and really discover some amazing older music.

The thing with teens is that they are focussed on the now and on themselves. I was like that and I'm sure nearly everyone of us was. Perspective, nostalgia, looking back instead of only at the now, that's not something most teens do or have.

But yeah, I've been listening to Soundgarden a lot too. His death persuaded me to go see Eddie Vedder tonight for way too much money. You never know when they'll be gone, so better take the chance when you get it.

Nu metal was probably frowned upon by people then and now, but this total absence of rock in the radio bothers me. So much that I would probably be thrilled and celebrate if a Limp Bizkit clone topped the Spotify charts a week from now. The music industry is kind of like politics - you need representation so that marginalized genres can prosper.

Andy Shauf, his album is amazing. If you love Elliott Smith, you'll love him. Very sensitive.
Had the opportunity to see him live a few months ago and will be seeing him again in a few weeks in the Netherlands. This guy has something.

I've had Kyuss blasting on the drive to work all this week. They were a no-go for a long time because of their association with a particular girl in my life, but now that I'm getting over her I can enjoy this marvellous music once more.
As much as I enjoy Josh Homme's current approach to guitar playing and songwriting, I wish he would get back to that loose, tripped-out style a bit more. All of the Kyuss stuff and a lot of the early QOTSA stuff were such jams. The Sky Valley album sounds like the soundtrack for a screaming, out of control rocket ride into the sun.

So a few months back I was revisiting and completely geeking over Glassjaw.

Now they have a new song out for the first time in ages! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsmRYan062E
