Dirk Lance announces new project: East of June

Postby redonkulousemu » Fri Oct 04, 2019 3:40 am

Hey everyone! So I've been working with Dirk these past couple of weeks to help put together some stuff to spread the word about his new project:

EAST OF JUNE

He made an exclusive video for us here on Incubus Online View, previewing the music video for their debut song "Rebel."

https://youtu.be/-o34tN4HizM

Also, at a future time, Dirk will be doing a Q&A and will be soliciting questions from various Incubus communities online. So feel free to ask a question (or just a comment) below in addition to general discussion, and I'll relay them over to him to answer. I don't know exactly how we're going to do the video answering them just yet, but I'll let you guys know as soon as I do.

You can follow them on their socials below, and I'll periodically be sharing info here too about the project. He's going to be a lot more active now, so be on the lookout for lots of new stuff (and music)!

Funny video!

I've been following on Insta. I wanna hear the full song. Emily has a nice voice, based on the Monday Music clips she posts. I'm looking foward to it.

Some questions I have at the moment:

How did East of June come about?

Have Emily, Dirk and Kyle known each other for a long time, or just recently?

What made you want to make music again after Willie's Nerve Clinic?

Will East of June be touring in the near future? If so, just locally or various places in the US?

Are there any other featured artists on the project?

I just saw this on Instagram and wanted to post here, but this is much better.

First of all, it's good to see Dirk Lance back in action, no matter what style of music.
Secondly, his humor didn't age poorly. That video is funny. I think it's cool he made that video directed at us and I appreciate the fact that he took the effort.

As for questions:

How do you come back from half-death? Half-zombie?

How did his own style of play/sound change since he left Incubus? Has it changed at all?

What are his expectations for East of June: is it mostly about having fun or are there bigger ambitions?

Which musicians/bands/artists were an inspiration to his playing/bass sound in East of June?

I don't know if any Incubus-related questions are out of line, but I'm still gonna post one. I can ask a million questions about his time with Incubus (I think we all can), but I only really want to know the answer to this one: Is he still in touch with (some guys in) the band and on good terms?

Will post more.if they come to me.

I guess just to be clear, Incubus questions are not completely out of the question, but obviously there are certain things he can't talk about and such. He's pretty aware people really want to ask about that time period, so the more thoughtful ones might have a better chance of getting answered.
Incubus: 7/9/09, 10/16/10, 6/25/11, 7/1/11, 7/5/11, 8/10/11, 10/8/11, 10/15/11, 4/27/12, 5/25/12, 5/26/12, 9/8/12, 9/10/12, 12/13/14, 8/28/15, 8/29/15, 8/30/15

I don't want to know that much, only the question above really.

If he could name one artist he would like to collaborate with, who would it be?

What a legend and a great video! It’s great to see him, I hope he knows how highly he’s still regarded.

I do have one question for the OP - “various Incubus communities online”. Are there more than this one??

Questions for Dirk (sorry, a bit bass nerdy)

Do you prefer using the Fender Jazz over the Warwick SS2 these days and if so why?

What’s your main rig these days?

What happened with WNC? Did it just run out of steam?

What was the hardest Incubus song to record for you?

Stickied this!

Hilarious video. Cool to have some love thrown our way from one of the founding members.

Excited to hear the material.

Questions:
1. +1 to the Willie's Nerve Clinic ones above.

2. Obviously the Incubus questions are going to be tough, however this has to be expected. I don't really have any questions other than maybe wanting to hear a general statement from his end about the current rapport and maybe some fun tid-bits. It's old news at this point.

The other communities I was referring to were the various facebook groups that are pretty active (Incubus World HQ, Chile, etc). We made videos for them too since they have quite a bit of members.

I have a question that is semi-Incubus related I guess:

I remember that when Incubus did MTV Diary, there was a scene with Dirk/Alex where he tells the camera that he's not big on attention and enjoys the anonymity he has as the bass player, followed by a scene where he goes into the crowd that's already waiting, asking them about their favorite band member and nobody recognizes him. Funny stuff. But now, with East of June, in any coverage he will be the focus of attention, see this way of promoting the new band. He is the most recognizable face in the band. How does he feel about being the big name in this new band? And is he comfortable with the idea that, at least in the early days of East of June, everybody will view it as 'that new band with Dirk Lance'?

Also: has he considered dropping his stage name?

No slight to Dirk or Kyle but I like the acoustic version way better than the radio single version. I really like Emily's voice and I'm looking forward to hearing the whole project!
