The Dear Hunter

Postby Jelger » Thu Aug 27, 2015 10:32 am

Original thread here.

Thought we should restart the Amp-section too and I just saw these guys for the first time ever in Köln (Germany) last sunday, opening for Manchester Orchestra. Unbelievable double-bill for me. Two bands from my all-time top-15 I still had to see.

The Dear Hunter was so good live! (As was Manchester Orchestra) They only had 35 minutes unfortunately and only could do six songs, but they played 1878 which was really exciting. Didn't expect that one. Also heard Wait, which I really fell in love with over the last two weeks. Excited for Act IV. What do you guys think of the three songs released so far of the new record?

Also, going to see them for a second time on september 5th! They're playing their first Dutch show, at a free festival in the south. Heading over there just for them. They'll play 45 minutes then, so I am excited to see a few more songs.

Nice I'll have to check them out, I've been really into a lot of electro pop, dreampop and synth pop lately. If that's your thing definitely check out Cathedrals, great duo!

Definitely check them out. I'd recommend songs, but I genuinely find hat hard to do. He has three conceptalbums, covering the story of the character The Dear Hunter, which are somewhat similar in style. But his collection of EP's with the color spectrum as theme, has widely different styles. I'd say you should really take sometime to listen to his work and not sample three songs and make up your mind.

Yeah I tend to prefer listening to albums over individual songs anyway when getting into a band.

While this is definitely an album band, so guess that's a good match. But I can still listen to the songs individually too :) Seriously love this band.

New album is out today. I have yet to listen, but probably the album I'm most excited for this year after Incubus.

Super excited that I'll be seeing the band again in just three hours time. The new album is awesome. Some weird songs on there, such as the disco-infused King Of Swords Reversed.

After three listens, I'm not feeling Act V that much. There are cool parts for sure, but very few songs stick with me like they do on all the other Act-albums. It's certainly the most theatrical and dramatic of the Acts. It's not bad, but to me it's not close to Act II, III and IV in terms of quality. I find Act I hard to compare, since it almost feels like an EP and prequel. Seems an unfair comparison, but the songs on Act I certainly have more individual replay value.
