Interviews and Magazines articles thread

Postby Jelger » Sat Aug 22, 2015 5:28 pm

Collection of the links posted in the original thread. Some of it will fit in News and Updates, but not every interview or article (review) is news, so post it here if you feel this fits better!

From the old thread:

Awesome interview with Brandon and Mike at the Los Angeles College of Music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A7S9iu6K5I

Interview with Kil and Jose @Big field day 2015
Nothing new really
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l36r309RQOw

podcast interview
http://www.billboard.com/articles/colum ... tion=false

Interview with Brandon Boyd on COS. Some interesting things on the INNW-period and also a very down to earth view on the relevance of the band in modern day music.
http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/05/i ... -darkness/

Interview with Ben, in a bass shop in Milan, before their show there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBjz4ponVdw

This was from the If Not Now, When? era but I'd never read it before - Mike's thoughts on the band in modern culture, I guess kind of similar to Brandon's recent interview about relevance.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/i ... say-213384

Interview with a Russian outlet. Not to informative, but funny because of the akward translations. And Brandon mentions a bunch of his favorite albums, which is pretty cool.

Band interview with EW.com while gaming:
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/13/in ... q-and-play

Another Brandon interview, goes into the dark period surrounding INNW a bit and shows how close the band was to calling it quits.

Not really relevant, but more a fun spot: in an article in a Dutch newspaper today about the semi-revival of nu-metal, Make Yourself get's a mention under the header Do listen to these nu metal albums:

'On Make Yourself, the focus is on Brandon Boyd's exceptionally strong voice. With the catchy balled that the Red Hot Chili Peppers could never have written 'Drive' and hitsingle 'Pardon Me'. '

Great little interview! A full album would be amazing.

Radio interview with Brandon as promo for the Las Vegas shows. Talks about Side B. Does use the term EP still. Says new music around Christmas, recording in the fall, EP early next year. So basically the original schedule for Side A, hopefully with less delay this time.

Oh, and God... Radio hosts in the States are so awkward.

Key points from the interview....

Question: What's next?
Mike Einziger wrote:As soon as we finish this leg of the tour, we're going to continue working on new music for the rest of the year 'cause we have a lot of new music that's been floating around and we've been working on it. I think we were a little overly ambitious. I think we thought that we could continue working in the studio while we were touring but it turned out to be kind of difficult. So we're just going to take the rest of the year to finish all this new music that we're working on.

Question: So that's when the second EP is coming? In the later half of this year?
Mike Einziger wrote:I'm hoping it's going to be an album. We were originally planning for it to be an EP but I think that our audience has spoken in a sort of unanimous voice that they want an album. We have a lot of material. We have a ton of new songs, so there's no reason why we wouldn't be able to make it an album. It's just a matter of having the time to work on it and to be in the studio and sort of properly record everything. We've been touring this whole time, so it's been a little hard to get it done.

Question: So was the original intention though to call it "Trust Fall (Side B)"?
Mike Einziger wrote:Yes. Our original idea was "let's record two EP's and we'll write music and record it and then tour, and then we'll write music and record it and tour", and it was sort of like this flip flopping thing where we were touring and writing and doing it all kind of simultaneously. It just turned out that it was harder to do that than we thought. We feel like we need more time to be at home or just not be touring. Touring is hectic. It's a little crazy and it's tiring. I mean, we love it, it's fun, we have a great time doing it, but it's hard to really focus on anything outside of touring I think for everybody.

Mike Einziger wrote:We need to definitely dedicate all of our energy while we're on the road to playing. A little overambitious of us to think that we could do it another way but that's cool, you know? It's all good.

Really worth a watch, just like the COS-interview before the tour was the best I've come across. They discuss SCIENCE for a bit, without it getting to nostalgic, look forward to Side B (nothing new, except maybe that Brandon says the songs are a bit more rocking).

But interesting to hear him about chart success and meditation on tour.

Yeah, very interesting interview. Liked the part when he talks about his relationship with Dirk.

This is more interesting because of the photos, but I think this is a build up to a larger magazine article about Brandon's art, his studio at home etc. Could be interesting!

A nice interview with Brandon and Mike on Hulu.
"Riffing with Incubus" - http://www.hulu.com/watch/870163
This came out yesterday but it seems to have been recorded right before their European tour.

Could someone rip that? Hulu has a geo-block. Lame.

Good read, and makes me hopeful for a new song in january.

Is anyone else a little annoyed that the concept Side A - Side B Ep's isn't finished? It's almost like with Limp Bizkit's Unquestionable Truth Part 1. The second part never saw the light of day. If Side B is going to be a full length, it would still feel a bit wrong. I'd rather have them rename it and release another set of four songs as Side B later.

Doesn't bother me. At least we get a full album.

That interview is fucking amazing, so many great nuggets of wisdom, I really do long to meet Brandon one day, I feel on so many levels that we are kindred spirits...
