Incubus Survivor: B-sides (Results and Discussion)

Now it's getting really hard...I love each of these b side singles so much. My criteria now is how well each of these songs would have fit on the album in their era. As such, I have to say goodbye to crowded elevator. It doesn't fit well on science and seems to have aged poorly.

But it's a Make Yourself B-side.

Today we say goodbye to Follow, a high energy track. I like it, but what I gather from your comments is that the chorus ruins it for some. Not the most exciting part of the song. I also think it's the least exciting instrumental of the four HALO songs, but that means it's still pretty good. Performed live only four times, but no video exists, even though I have a shitty audio file of it somewhere.

We no longer admire Admiration. It's out. A decent, but forgetable track if you ask me. To me Admiration is one of those songs that I really understand of why they never made it to an album. But it's not bad-bad, it's just... plain. Like toast with peanut butter. Sometimes it's nice to eat that instead of haute cuisine, but most of the time... it's not.

Monuments and Melodies is the next song to leave us. A song unlike any other in Incubus' catalogue. If INNW was an album with songs like M&M (which I think would fit within the style of that album), I'm sure it wouldn't be disliked so much. It's a good song, a bit dragging for my taste, but a good song nonetheless. And performed live once! Check that out here.

Totally agree w the idea that INNW should have sounded more like M&M. It's dark, it's touchy, but certainly not cheesy!

I voted Crowded Elevator. At this point I'm just choosing my least favourite of a bunch of my favourite overall Incubus songs. It's been tough ever since Follow got eliminated.

Oh boy, we're finally at the top-5 and it's the top-5 you'd expect. Which means While All The Vultures Feed is out. I love that song, but something odd happened when it came out. I am a huge fan of the former UK posthardcore-band Reuben. They have a great song called Suffocation of the Soul, which starts oddly similar to WATVF. Listen here. Note: this song came out in 2007, WATVF was written in 2004/2005, but released in 2009. So no way that either band could've stolen this intro from each other.
