Re: '8' - Album discussion
Yeah, I was about to download that podcast and listen to it. But that isn't so different from their process for their albums right? I think Brandon and Mike always do most of the ground work.
Edit: well, 'podcast' was certainly overstating it. It's just that exact quote. Oh well.

Exactly. This is their normal process. Right or wrong, how a band "sounds" on a record (melody, lyrics, song structure) generally falls on the lead singer and lead guitarist, so in most bands, that's how the songwriting process works.

Yeah, and Ben has always praised Mike's songwriting abilities. I remember seeing an interview where he says that Mike always comes with a skeleton of the songs, and then the whole band starts building them up.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
I always think it's weird how people like to see things where there are none. Just because Ben hasn't shown up in a few pics and wasn't energetic in a video people suddenly freak out.
What about the short video on NB or the other one that was posted on Instagrm where he is actively contributing to the writing process?
Also, by that logic you could say that Kil is never active. Most songs he is just bopping his head waiting for his turn to make a few sounds. Yet nobody says he is done or anything. I don't get it

Re: '8' - Album discussion
Didn't mean to make it about Ben just saw that some people were concerned. Wonder if the initial material was also just Mike and Brandon? Who knows, just wanted to report the news.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
I'd say it's obvious to anyone with eyes, that Ben has featured less than the rest of the band.
He's in the videos a lot less
He's promoted the album and songs on social media a lot less
He hasn't appeared in a single interview
He was the only one missing from the photo uploaded a few weeks back of the band with Sonny
I don't think there's anything wrong with showing some concern. Personally, I absolutely love Bens solo stuff and think he brings loads to the band - so it's obviously going to be a talking point if he's hardly featuring in any of the stuff leading up to a new release.
Saying that, it could be "nothing". Fingers crossed.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
I agree. However, Nicubus also has a point. These concerns also occured in 2011 and in 2013 after an interview in Italy. It always led to nothing, luckily. Lets hope it stays that way and Ben will be around for longer.

"8" will join Science, Make Yourself, and Morning View as an Incubus album with no clever name song titles.

Azwethinkweiz was on the Enjoy Incubus Ep.
Snippets sounds promising so far. Can't believe we are only a few weeks away from the album release.

I'm pretty sure they'll stream the entire album a few days before the release.

Looks like the original version of Nimble Bastard was removed from Spotify. Both versions used to be available

Are you implying Crow isn't good?

Re: '8' - Album discussion
'State of the Art' has leaked. Link here
*LINK REMOVED*
A perfect example of a small snippet being misleading. The song takes a turn after the section we got in the snippet finishes, which caught me by surprise.
First impression is it seems fairly repetitive. I was really looking forward to this track, so will need to give it some time as it didn't sit quite right after the first listen.
* as a new member to the forum, I'm not sure whether posting links to 'leaks' is frowned upon - so if it is, let me know and I'll remove it.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
Yeah. I enjoyed it, but it sort of feels like a standard pop-rock song. I liked the bridge a lot, though. Also the acoustic guitar is a nice touch.
I guess it'll grow on me.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
Enjoying what I'm hearing so far, including SotA. One thing I'm noticing is that his seems to be a very Brandon-forward album with less emphasis on memorable guitar riffs and wacky solos.
Re: '8' - Album discussion
I don't like it.
I'm not worried though, and still excited for the rest of 8.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
Not the best, but far from the worst. I do like how the second chorus cranks up. Seems a little safe, in a Diamonds and Coal way.

I removed the link, generally speaking: don't post links to content that is or will be available commercially in the near future. It's on spotify from 00:00 onwards (depending on time zone) and if people really can't wait, I'm sure they can Google it.

Re: '8' - Album discussion
The one thing that stands out to me on all three songs so far is that each member of the band is featured in a prominent yet cohesive way. Each has their fingerprints all over the songs. INNW and LG were NOT this way. They are a group on these songs. The interesting thing will be to see how many of the 'effects' are Kil vs Skrillex. Love the return of the atmospheric elements Kil provides. Also, is it the production VS actual song composition?
Wonder if we'll get a song each week.
FWIW, I already love State of the Art.
MY and ACLOTM are my fav albums.
