I really like the song. And once again Brandon did a great job especially on his voice dominates again. Lastly each member contributes like what redefineyourself said.

Top 3 as of now

1.Glitterbomb
2. State of the Art
3. Nimble Bastard ( I just wish the original version)

Really excited for this album far away from INNW, so for those who are complaining come on guys let's just be grateful, because our favorite band are back!

I just finished listening to "State of the Art". I was fully prepared to write the song off until it got to the bridge. I actually love the bridge and outro. I put it on the same level as "Dig" and "Love Hurts". Not the worst song from them, far from the best.

I'm listening to it now. It kind of reminds me of Young The Giant.

On my first listen 'SOTA' reminded me a lot of Hoobastank (in a good way). Also, I'm just glad Brandon is using his deeper singing range this time around (at least on all 3 songs I've heard so far from 8). It's my favorite Brandon's singing style :D

So far, they're 3/3 in my opinion. I've thoroughly enjoyed each song released, and think State of the Art is absolutely fantastic. The bridge through the end especially. I love hearing Mike have a deeper, fuller tone again vs the higher, treble-ish tone we've been hearing for some time now.

I don't see how these to songs are in the same category. Dig is so, so much better than Love Hurts.

Sorry, I meant in terms of mainstream radio appeal, and how it will sound to the casual listener.

I agree that "Dig" is the better record, but "Love Hurts" got tons of airplay.

I would actually put "State of The Art" above "Love Hurts" at this point, as well.

I love it, think it will fit nicely between Nimble Bastard and Glitterbomb when I play the album through. Lyrics are great and something I can certainly relate to these days, trying to make peace with the aging process. I'm content, looking forward to more releases and the full album.

State of the Art sounds like a Sons of the Sea song. Not a fan as I find Sons of the Sea to be generic and boring. Brandon's voice sounds great on this track, but otherwise it sounds like radio rock

Straightforward? Yeah. SOTA is not the most unique Incubus song, but on first listen just now, I really enjoyed it! It didn't blow me away, but that sounded like a solid song. Very enjoyable, and much like another commenter on here noted, I love the atmosphere/effects going on (whether that's Kil or Skrillex).

I will say though, I do miss getting an album on the release date and hearing everything but the first single completely new. Oh well.

Not so much surprised, everything has been said in the snippet.

It's definitely a good song, but it didn't blow me away.
I would rather put it on the same status as Adolescent, than Dig or Love Hurts. Good song, chorus stays in mind but not Incubus at their best. Glitterbomb is way much better.

Agreed, I like this song a lot but at the same time if we can download it now and pay for it, it's almost getting to the point where I may as well buy every track individually rather than the album as a whole.

You can still, you know, not listen to the song and get that experience still.

Fair enough. At this point, I consider "State of the Art" as the "Drive " of this album (mellow, easy to sing to) and Glitterbomb is "Pardon Me" (mid-tempo rocker).

I don't have that amount of self control. At all.

I think that might be Ben on the bridge, no? Playing with a pretty treble-y sounding bass tone?

Yep. Straight forward, radio rock. Solid song.

Edit: Hoobastabnk, SOTS...Totally

The bridge is what elevates the song for me. It took a different direction than what I felt was coming. I will note that it feels like these songs have an extra dash of creativity that's been somewhat absent/inconsistent for a while.

Glitterbomb is still the leader for me. I feel like this album's going to win me over. Love the general creative direction, if not every aspect of each individual song I've heard.

Heard it. Generic, yes. A bit bland, yes. But lyrically its pretty good, Brandon sounds good. I don't know why the bridge is something you guys find so special, it doesn't do much for me (and yes, that's most certainly Ben). Can't imagine this is a song that'll ever make my Incubus toplist. Don't hate it, but don't think I'll ever love it.
