They've stopped teasing it too since a few weeks, it's all so poorly timed and managed.

Another week, another let down. Song still not released. Brandon said release was in 3 weeks, about a year and half ago now. They had some decent momentum going and now.......SMH vigorously. Whether it’s management (or lack of) or the band, someone has dropped the fuckin ball. Summer is halfway over. It doesn’t take a genius to see marketing potential for a song called “Into the Summer” in the damn summer. This is ridiculous.

It’s actually going to tick over into August...nearly the end of summer. Ridiculous.

They really dropped the ball with this single. Not that I expected it to make a big splash, but I am now considering the possibility that they won't release it all, at least as a single, like Trust Fall Side B. Maybe the band/management thought it was a bad idea to drop it before a nostalgia tour, but they should've thought of that before teasing it extensively. If they don't release it next friday, the day before the tour starts, I don't see the point in releasing it at all this year.

...did they ever officially announce the single? Like a press release and all?

It seems like they played a new, unreleased song at a small show, posted some clips of the making of a video (which I can't recall whether they explicitly stated was for the song, though we know it was), and then everything they've done on record since then has been about promoting the tour.

I agree it's not great optics, but I see a bunch of people here talking about how they've "blown it"...aside from the fact that the song contains the word "summer," I don't see it as being that big a deal. Most people in the world probably didn't know that this song existed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, they went on record in several interviews that they would be releasing a new single in 'several weeks' and in one interview (Buildseries) with a quite specific 'in three weeks'.
They even shot a video for it, we know this for a fact.
Plus all of them, except Ben, posted on social media with captions along the lines of 'still waiting for Into The Summer'.

So no press release, but the expectations build among those posting here is fully justified and caused by the band themselves. And the fact that they say these things and don't follow it up with an official press release of some sorts is the whole point we're making.

By the way: title-wise the song should've been released by now, lyric-wise it's about someone looking back at the summer and the mistake made during the summer. So lyrically.... it could still make sense in autumn. ;)

This has been their history with announcements and releases post Ren though, so we all should kind of be accustomed to it. Is it lame? Yes of course, but I also understand that they get super excited about their work and want to share it ASAP, so they most likely make promises that can't be fulfilled, due to either contractual obligations, or they get wrapped up in their busy lifestyle. It's not like we've ever had a firm date either... Closest thing we had was "three weeks," but that also could've been a guess, who knows?

But they are without a label, who but the band and its management can hold it back?

What you say about the post-Ren era is true though. It's messy.

Do we know this as 100% truth? Even if it was, like I also said was that they could be so engrossed in touring, rehearsing for touring, doing extracurricular activities, doing band activities, etc. etc. that they've simply forgotten. I mean, when I'm at work, I forget shit all the time, and we use task tracking software.

I'm not trying to be argumentative just for the sake of it, but that was almost 3 months ago, right?

True, something could've changed. Doesn't change the fact that the band hyped the release of the song only for it to be followed by waiting.

Maybe something’s coming this Friday. They are each posting new photos of themselves on IG. Like the start of a new promo. Fingers crossed.

This band makes it really hard to be a fan. There are just a handful of us checking back in here for news, and it's been disappointing for several years now. I figured with no label they'd feel more liberated and able to release whatever they wanted, but instead they teased a new song and then just stopped talking about it.

Agreed. For the love of God they can’t just upload it to soundcloud?

It’s almost as if they’re trying to be irrelevant. Going all the way back to the Trust Fall era, it seems anytime they have had some momentum on the release of new music, the proverbial ball gets dropped somewhere along the way. The current state of rock music has been in a state of flatline for a minute now and Incubus could easily be the band that brings it back and they don’t seem to give a shit. Come on, Imagine Dragons? Panic at the Disco? This is what passes as “good” alt rock music? “Into The Summer” isn’t that great of a song but it’s still better than most crap passing off as rock music. I’d like to see Incubus make a late career Hail Mary catch back to the upper echelon one more time, where they belong, and they just don’t seem to give a fuck and are quickly on their way to a nostalgia act. And that totally bums me out.
