Yeah, I'm getting the semi-generic vibe from Nimble Bastard as well, and not really digging it as of now. But really, I've been mislead by lead singles plenty of times. INNW, Adolescents blew my mind and I thought it would be the best Incubus album yet, especially coming off songs like Surface to Air. Didn't live up to the expectations (but it was still good, despite the haters). Trust Fall was different, and still really had that Incubus vibe, but I really think it suffered from not being an album, plus really shitty production. That vinyl is one of the worst sounding records I own. I actually avoided LG for almost a year because I really didn't dig (ha!) Anna Molly, and now it's one of my favorite albums. Crow was the last time the album actually matched my expectations from the lead single (which was complete amazement). I don't really remember anticipating MV and MY, so I can't really comment on that, those albums just seemed "around" at that point of my life haha.

Well I'll be damned.

The wait is finally over.

I couldn't be more excited for a new album this spring and a summer tour. Releasing on "Incubus day" is a nice nod and the first single sounds energetic, albeit a little generic upon first listen (where's Kil?) though I'm sure the full album is full of bangers and it gives us something to look forward to.

I'm ready.

I was hoping this record would be their version of Pearl Jam's Avocado album.

Not the pinnacle but a return to the core sound in some way. Nimble Bastard actually fits that idea; generic for sure, but the tempo and effort is there so I remain cautiously optimistic about 8.

I like the song OK, it just doesn't grab me and it just seems kind of boring.

But what excites me is the possibility for an exclusive release on Record Store Day April 22nd. I mean it is the next day, maybe we could get an exclusive vinyl color or something. The thing is though, could the vinyl press in general be done by release day 4/21?
I am excited for the new album. I do hate the bland album name of "8" though.

Also funny that people miss Brendan O'brien. He got a lot of hate for LG and INNW.

I was no fan of O'Brien's work on those albums, and I like the messy quality of this song. The mix is a little too dirty for taste, but it gives the song personality. "Nimble Bastard" opens up on headphones.

That being said, I'm no fan of Dave Sardy.

It really does... you can definitely hear each individual part clearer (even Kil's little effects).

Yea I like how Mike glitches in and out of the ear. It's not a bad single at all. I'm hoping for something a bit deeper from the rest of the album, but this really is a hell of a lot better than anything off of "Trust Fall" to me.

Looking forward to a high quality version tomorrow. I'm feeling good about the record, although in my opinion Adolescents was not an accurate representation of things to come and INNW was a let down. However, the fact that they keep saying it's a high-energy rocking album makes me hopeful! See you all on the road this summer

Agreed. I like the song. Fast paced. It takes a few spins, like most first singles do. I didn't expect it to be the "blow me away" song i hope to find deeper on the album. Overall, solid effort.

I've spend the vast majority of today listening to the song. At first I thought it was somewhat generic, but it's really not. The more I hear it, the more I realize this is the incubus I've been missing. I don't disagree with the "return to roots" comment. No. It's obviously not Science/MY/MV, but considering Crow is 14 years old, they have energy back that I haven't heard since then. In addition to Make a Move and Look Alive, the guitar reminds me of Our Lady Peace "whatever."

I'm kinda having the same feeling. I realized it's the chorus that ruins it for me and gives it that generic feel. Everything else feels more Incubus-y the more I listen to it.

It's on Spotify. Does that count as High Quality?

Agree with the sentiment about the headphones, I played it through just my PC speakers, and then my car on the way to work - but donning some headphones at work and listening - wow, it really sounds completely different. Recommend a headphone listen if you're about iffy about it. Can hear everything, including lyrics, much easier.

It's a good song. Not outstanding and amazing, and probably didn't live up to the hype Mike portrayed, but it's a solid start. Can't wait for the album.

Oh goodness, headphones really do enhance this by a lot. I like Ben in this song, actually. And I can hear a few little Incubus-y things going on, with the few Kil effects, and the way Brandon says "Earth" (just me?).

Also, it's on iTunes.

Excellent, thank you.

As I had hoped, I agree with those of you who feel it sounds much better at a higher quality and with headphones. Can't wait to see this one live.

Sounds awesome through my Bose's. People will inevitably complain about the mix, especially after Trustfall wasn't mixed well and INNW was so polished, but honestly it sounds gritty as hell and kinda fits the mood of the song IMO. I will wait until I hear the whole album before I opine on the overall production quality.

After listening to it most of the day, I can safely say this song is fucking dope. I LIKE IT. The chorus threw me off at first because it sounded kinda pop-punky. Maybe the problem was the song starts off with a dark/uncertain vibe, and then just gets really happy during the chorus. But that's kinda the point of the song, no? The nimble bastard keeps landing on his feet. I can dig it.

Much better version on Spotify. Love hearing the detail through headphones.

It's a grower

I like the song but as others have said the quality of the production and mix is terrible. I don't understand how this happens with a band the caliber of incubus

It happened to Metallica with Death Magnetic, and they are ten times the stature of Incubus. Bad choices happen to everyone.

Thing I notice is that again, like with Trust Fall, its the production of Brandon's voice that I have to adjust to the most. Muffled, like he's singing through a tin can. I think that in the production for INNW his voice was too clear in the mix, but this is the other end of the spectrum.
