patakevkev wrote:No one knows what the thought process behind incubus is anymore haha. Really feels like they don't take the band as seriously as they used to, and they aren't as innovative or experimental anymore. The Trust Fall Side A/B project was a cluster fuck. What ever happened to the SCIENCE guitar tutorials Mike had set to do? He did like 2 or 3 songs and abandoned the project. The 2017 tour had them playing the same hits they always play. Do they really need to play every album single every show? Their setlists are wayyy too predictable. I can only imagine the festival setlists are even safer. I don't know, maybe the 2017 setlists would have felt refreshing to me if I actually enjoyed 8 since they played a handful of songs from that album. Instead, those songs felt bland. Much better live, but still bland. Also, I know the band dislikes their older material but can't they at least play ONE song off SCIENCE or FA for their diehards? I get the notion that they want to do whatever they naturally feel like doing, but can't they give their fans SOMETHING? They talk about how they don't like the writing off those records but I'm sure that era is still memorable for them. Maybe the majority of people who go to their shows nowadays aren't too familiar with that type of Inucbus...I don't know. It is what it is. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed haha. I fucking love Incubus and I know they could be doing more.

I feel you, but it's like any band who've been around this long and take a hiatus or two then come back. They've made it with Incubus and spent the best part of 20 years fully immersed with it all, it's never ever going to be as full on as it was years back. The music business doesn't operate the way it used to either, which affects things.

I've always been pining for the 03/04 years mentality from the band, but thought about it recently - that it's near enough 15 years since that time now. It feels like yesterday to me but it's been a long time. This will make the SCIENCE/FA stuff seem even more distant.

The way I feel about Incubus will never change, but I can't say I am as optimistic about them now as I was a few years ago. What Mike said in the pre-8 interview of a lot of fans wanting to see and hear some progressive magnum opus and the chances of that happening being zero, where they are known for their bigger hit songs and enjoy belting them out in the arenas really hit home for me.

Agreed. I went to a few shows this past tour and i really enjoyed them, but their sets are indeed predictable. I was listening to a few bootlegs from the 2004 tour and they definitely were at their prime during that tour. It is crazy that 2004 was 14 years ago and for me still feels like yesterday, like someone above mentioned.

On the other hand. I've gotta say that i'm impressed by not seeing any european tour dates as of now. I don't live in Europe, but there was a time when Incubus would play shows in Europe first than any other part of the world.

Wonder if they will do another co-headlining tour in the U.S this summer?

Don't remind me

It's hard not to think about because they have always hinted at it since Ben joined the band with every album except for 8 (SSLW, Pendulous, Wolves). I think they finally let go of that part of their selves and are just focusing on straight ahead rock songs. They don't even play the extended version of SSLW anymore. They said it themselves, they accomplished everything they could have imagined. And that might be the problem, they don't have ambition anymore. Maybe they need an infusion of new blood, like how re-energized they seemed after Ben joined the band, but I have no idea how that would look and the thought of any member leaving terrifies me because I love what each of them do so much. Who knows, maybe they just need a good/new producer.

All I know is there is a small minority of us who see the potential of doing some crazy progressive magnum opus, and it makes me sad to know they wont pursue it. I'll always be a fan, and I loved 8, but my inner music nerd still yearns for it.

Is it in part the management and label too? I remember being frustrated by the old label hounding them for singles every album and cutting stuff like Look Alive off the record, but on the flip side we had Rennie managing and european dates and UK every single album run.

It cuts even deeper because I missed the INN,W Manchester date and heavily regretted doing so.

Today I listened to incubus live in sweden 2004, and its awesome listening to them jamming about with songs and sounding so happy and confident. Its been years since i've listened to any of the live albums they released from back then and what bass version of drive sounds amazing and you can hear Ben jamming about on idiot box and older songs, giving them new life. I don't remember feeling how I did today about listening to it back then strangely - almost like took it for granted back then. After 8 came out they said about re-finding themselves. For me incubus is always best when they are all in a room jamming having fun playing music, not writing for anybody. I hope they come to the UK in tour of 8, I'd love to hear how they are playing the songs live.

Yeah man, they really need to hit up Europe. But again, I'd prefer waiting a few months till october/november to see them do headline shows over seeing them in the summer at a festival.

Also: the band did an interview with KROQ, which is about to be released. Supposedly it's pretty in-depth, so I'm expecting a lot from that.

Awesome interview.

Just finished watching

50 mins long and I still wanted more. Stryker should have said screw it, let's go for 2 hrs. LOL!!

The whole interview, all these little anecdotes while talking about their journey.. it felt like I was just in my living room with my friends. I didn't want it to end. Good stuff.

They handled the Alex question really well. One thing I've always applauded the guys for, they handled that situation about as well as you possibly can. They've never talked bad about Alex and Alex has never talked bad about them.

I also loved how Brandon talked about how things clicked when Ben joined. I've always felt Mike kind of found such a great writing partner in Ben, so I'm glad to hear the guys feel the same way. Their chemistry on Crow, LG and 8 is incredible!!

Best interview in years and years. I especially loved the story of Zack from Rage visiting Morning View, what a trip! This interview is a must-listen, Stryker did a great job as always.

Great interview, only half way through now. So much focus on the early days, that's amazing.

EDIT: Finished it, man what a good interview. So many great anecdotes and little bits. I was really surprised that they basically didn't venture into the post-Morning View era at all. Maybe for like eight minutes? I think if Ben would've been there, there would've been a lot more focus on that. But I wouldn't mind another 50 minutes on the 2004 till now era. Please, KROQ?

Looking more and more like the guys are staying stateside for most of the summer. Maybe hope for a fall European tour after all?

Wow, this is a Stellar interview. They should do more hour-long (or longer) interviews, like podcasts. Those old stories are Priceless.
