I like where this is going, although predictable, the three songs un-voted until now are easily the three best b-sides.

I'm still in awe why Surface was not included on INNW. Easily would have been up there with adolescents and wolves and imho would have rounded out the album better.

Incubus Survivor: B-sides (Round 8)

Postby Jelger » Fri Oct 13, 2017 7:30 am

Hi guys! How's everyone? Next up: B-sides! For everybody who is new to these things, we already tackled Fungus Amongus , S.C.I.E.N.C.E , Make Yourself, Morning View, A Crow Left of the Murder, Light Grenades, If Not Now, When?, Trust Fall (Side A) and 8. Remember to vote your LEAST favorite. There was some confusion about that, but if you vote your favorite... it might be gone soon!

Neither of Us Can See is eliminated. I've been voting for the song for a few rounds now, but I really think that if this song was on a regular album I'd rate it higher. Lyrically it's sound, but since I listen to full albums more than to the b-sides it never really suck with me. Slowly but surely we're edging towards the conclusion, choices are becoming more difficult...

So let's go ahead and VOTE here on your LEAST FAVORITE B-side. I'll try to post a new round every two or three days and will also post the survivor over at /r/incubus.

I could have sworn they did a live version of Neither of Us Can See on a late night show. Can't find it though.

Sad to see it go. Definitely my favourite of the three Stealth tracks. The Stealth version with Chrissy Hynde is a bit of a forgotten gem in the band's catalogue.

Never seen that before! Thanks for the link! There's no info about that performance anywhere. Was this ever aired? Any one know the date?

Nvm, found it: http://sharetv.com/shows/the_tonight_sh ... des/388703

Incubus Survivor: B-sides (Round 9)

Postby Jelger » Mon Oct 16, 2017 3:14 pm

Today, we say goodbye to Midnight Swim. A little rocker, that never really grabbed my attention to be honest. I always thought it was confusing we had this Midnight Swim and the Midnight Swim from the Look Alive soundtrack too. No live video of this one...

Can Black Heart Inertia die already, please?

Anything went down way too soon.

If there's one thing I've learned from these survivor thingos it's that my favourite songs from the band are not popular choices. I'd put Midnight Swim in my top five for this list:

Midnight Swim
Pantomime (sentimental fave, so many good memories attached to this one)
Monuments and Melodies
Punch Drunk
Surface to Air

with Follow and Crowded Elevator being honourable mentions.

How the hell did Midnight Swim beat BHI? I fell in love with MS upon first listen, and still rock to it to this day. A real underrated often forgotten track.

BHI to go next. Gonna have a real hard time voting anything out after this! Incubus are one of the few bands where I love a great deal of their b-sides even more than their main stuff.

No way BHI beats out Follow. That song is the only reason I got into playing Halo.

I shared Brandon's sentiments exactly!

Incubus Survivor: B-sides (Round 10)

Postby Jelger » Thu Oct 19, 2017 1:42 pm

Hi guys! How's everyone? Next up: B-sides! Today we say goodbye to the other new track that emerged on Monuments and Melodies: Black Heart Inertia. I know it's a pretty stock poprock-song, nothing adventurous or groundbreaking about. Generic. But it's still a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I can't put my finger on why, but I like it better than most I think. Weird thing was that it was the single for Monuments and Melodies, but on the tour it was only played five times: at a KROQ Show, Conan, the legendary Echoplex-show and twice on the regular tour. Enjoy a live video here. (and notice how young and super clean Brandon sounded in 2009, seriously impressed)

Now it's getting really hard...I love each of these b side singles so much. My criteria now is how well each of these songs would have fit on the album in their era. As such, I have to say goodbye to crowded elevator. It doesn't fit well on science and seems to have aged poorly.
