Re: '8' - Album discussion

Listening to No Fun takes me back about 17 years, to when I played Tony Hawk all day. Probably my favourite on the album. Familiar Faces is about as close to a perfect Incubus song as exists. In terms of striking a balance between musicianship and pop songwriting it's spot on. And obviously Throw Ou...

I wish his Supergrub stuff was on iTunes, there's only the first album. I think I like it more than his solo work.

Re: '8' - Album discussion

State of the Art is a massive earworm for me. I've only heard it twice and now I can't get the chorus out of my head. Not a bad thing though. Love the lyrical content. I'm very excited for this album. I'm going to throw an idea out for a video: make an interactive video of just the band playing the ...

Re: Last movie seen

Nocturnal Animals 9/10 So much thrills. It goes deep in your strongest fears, brilliant actors (and Jake Gyllhenhaal is not one of my favorite), good scenario until the end. Flawless. Shouldn't it be 10/10 then? Lol. I've been wanting to watch this movie since it came out. It had such a short run i...

Re: The gig thread

Have fun at Nick Cave. I'm so gutted I missed him when he was here a couple of months ago. In the same week, Nick Cave, Dinosaur Jr., and PJ Harvey were all playing the same city. And I just had to go and start a new job... But the consolation is that I'm seeing The Darkness next month. That will be...

For all those worried about the extent of Skrillex's involvement, have a read of this interview with Brandon. https://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/?toURL=https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevebaltin/2017/03/07/how-incubus-got-their-groove-back/&refURL=https://www.google.co.nz/&referrer=https://...

Re: '8' - Album discussion

The General Electric is totally dance rock. Wait and See and Sport and Religion have great grooves. I guess it's my term for rock bands that were influenced by big beat artists like The Prodigy, and were active around the time that a lot of people were claiming rock was dead and electronic music was...

Re: '8' - Album discussion

I've got a feeling about what the new album is going to sound like. I was at work today with the radio on and NB came on (it's getting some radio play here in New Zealand by the way) and I found myself dancing to it, white boy style. It's got a great beat and is very easy to move to. What I'd like t...

Re: '8' - Album discussion

I'm excited by Nimble Bastard. It think it shows the band is heading in an exciting direction. I'd expect a number of lovely left field Incubus tracks. There's still so much unknown about the sound of the album (Skrillex being mentioned is intriguing at the very least) and the band are obviously exc...

Re: Book Rec

I just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It might be a bit of a cliche to recommend it, considering how popular it is, but it really is quite good. I got the same feeling at the end of it as I did at the end of Requiem for a Dream; a no hope, no light at the end of the tunnel, you are doomed kind...

Re: Book Rec

It's a darn good yarn. It was interesting to read it before watching the recent movie Everest, which was based on Beck Weather's account I believe. Which is understandable because his experience on the mountain was very dramatic and had a Hollywood ending. There's some controversy over how accurate ...

That would be an awful lot of shirt changing for no reason lol. I'd say the reason he's stopped or put it on hold is because the band is recording, which is a good thing. Still, I was really looking forward to New Skin and Glass.

Can anyone recommend any gigs happening in Europe in October? I'm backpacking through there and would love to see a show. I'm going clockwise from Paris through Northern Germany and down through Italy.

Wicked Game?!?!?! I love that song. So nice to see them playing it. It would be cool to see them work it into one of their own songs Stellar/De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, Are You In/Riders on the Storm, Here In My Room/My Girl style.
