Re: Tool

The new track is okay. Something I'd expect from them. It's a rather easy listen actually but it's not something I want to listen to repeatedly.

Re: Tool

Well, they have the unfair advantage of millions of Tool fans holding their breath for the last decade or so.

I do hope they get new fans with this new album instead of just reigniting the dormant ones. There are lots of deserving bands out there who would benefit from this new interest in rock.

Re: Progressive

The new Northlane album "Alien" is impressive. I've been listening to it for days and can't get enough of it. Nolly of Periphery did a pretty good job with mixing it and this album convinced me that he's one of the best rock producers right now. As for the album itself, it's not so much pr...

Jazz wrote:As for Karnivool. Really hope their album comes out this year too. For some reason it seems like Asymmetry nearly broke them up.

How so? Was producing that record a nightmare for them?

Re: Discovering new music

And it's not like those immensely popular bands a decade ago have quit. They're still out there making music with little to no interest from the mainstream at all, and end up looking like washed up fools. There's just no market. (The market has matured, got jobs, got pregnant, and could no longer fi...

Re: Progressive

New Karnivool is supposedly releasing this year. However people were saying the same thing last year... and the year before. If this album gets pushed back again I really don't care anymore... *Sulks in corner* In other important matters, I've recently got back to listening to Oceansize. My memory i...

Re: Discovering new music

I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of band musicianship in the mainstream. The musical landscape is very worrying though. People in general aren't interested in bands these days.

Re: Discovering new music

I do, however, feel that Spotify/streaming in general is causing interesting and especially non-mainstream artists under the radar. Not consiously or as a business plan, but simpely by existing. The fact that labels, producers know so much more about their audience, can make them target very specif...

Re: Discovering new music

So this is something I've been wondering about for a while: for a few years, I've been noticing that I am less and less invested in discovering in new music. I hardly keep up and most of the time I only check-out new albums from bands I already know (but not bands I am a fan of by default). I've no...

I really like this Periphery song. Sonically, it sounds like an ode to the rainy season.

Re: Progressive

And here I thought they were a new band. Northlane is another Aussie band that I'm really digging lately ever since someone recommended them to me (Morgan of Sevendust is a fan as well): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifh9nWGYyNk I really like their sense of melody despite really downtuned guitars ...

Re: Progressive

I hate to see bands go. The digital age sucks for bands tbh Anyway, I thought I'd visit IOV since I've had time to really listen to some music lately. And So I Watch You From Afar - just discovered them literally a day ago. Lead-heavy guitar duo stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTl3QJun2TE Slee...

Re: Progressive

They're post-rock right? I listened to a song or two by them probably a decade ago, but I honestly could no longer remember what song it was. (My external drive got wiped too along with my entire music collection so I couldn't check). Could you recommend an album by them? Thanks!

Re: Last movie seen

Here goes... The Force Awakens = 7/10 Seeing this after the abysmal prequels is refreshing. I really enjoyed it. Rogue One = 9/10 This has to be the best Star Wars film if only for its darker tone. It made the Star Wars universe more 'real' for me. I'd give this a 10 if it had better development for...

This is from his other band Dorje (basically the same rhythm section but with a vocalist):

It seems like a really fun song to play on guitar.

Re: Progressive

After much searching, I just found out Toska's "Ode to the Author" EP is available on Bandcamp with a "pay 0 upwards" option. It sounds amazing. They have a great sense of groove. This stuff sounds huge - really thick bass sound just like Karnivool's.

Re: Progressive

Just discovered Toska. I've known about the guitarist, Rabea, on the Andertons "Sound like X without busting the bank" videos but haven't got around to listening to the stuff he was doing. Until now. And I must say, I'm quite impressed. These guys are influenced by Karnivool and Incubus am...
